The Hillside School in Lower Macungie Township has completed a new walking path, funded by a $193,000 state grant. The initiative was supported by Sen. Jarrett Coleman (R-16), who played a role in securing the funding.

Hillside School is dedicated to serving elementary and middle school students with language-based learning differences. It aims to help each student reach their full potential and is recognized as a benchmark independent day school for educating children with these disabilities.

Sen. Coleman stated, “The path makes it safer for students and their families who walk to school and provides area residents with another opportunity for outdoor recreation.” He expressed satisfaction that the state recognized the value of this local project and committed to continuing advocacy for initiatives in Lehigh and Bucks counties.

The newly completed path runs along the front of the school and is accessible to bicyclists as well. Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh) emphasized its importance: “Hillside School plays a unique and important role in educating students with learning differences. This walking path improves access and safety while reinforcing our shared commitment to supporting educational excellence and community well-being.”

Bruce Bietel, township manager for Lower Macungie Township, highlighted the pathway’s significance: “Completion of the Hillside School pathway is a key connection point in the Lower Macungie Township sidewalk and pathway connectivity plan.” He acknowledged Sen. Coleman’s efforts along with state assistance.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grant through its Local Share Account Program, which is funded by local gaming revenue.

Jason Seggern, head of school for Hillside School, expressed gratitude: “Hillside is grateful to Sen. Coleman, Lower Macungie Township and the Commonwealth Financing Authority for investing in this walking path.”
