Senator Jarrett Coleman (R-16), along with Representatives Gary Day (R-187) and Zachary Mako (R-183), announced that Lehigh County will receive $2.1 million in state grant funding for roadway and sewer infrastructure projects. The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) administered the funding.

“This critical funding helps municipalities improve public safety and accessibility while maintaining essential infrastructure like roads, bridges, and sewer systems,” said Coleman. “These projects will make our communities safer, more connected, and move important improvements one step closer to completion.”

“Investing in infrastructure and safety is essential to maintaining the quality of life in our communities,” Day stated. “These grants will help Lower Macungie Township make critical pedestrian safety improvements and ensure accessibility for all residents, while the Macungie Borough Authority can upgrade aging water mains to provide reliable service. These projects reflect our commitment to creating safer neighborhoods and strengthening the foundation of our local infrastructure for years to come.”

“I’m pleased to partner with Sen. Coleman on this important project,” said Mako. “Safety of motorists is a high priority. As this is a structurally deficient bridge, it needs to be replaced before it is forced to close or collapses. The new bridge will ensure reliable travel for years to come.”

The state Multimodal Transportation Fund Program awarded $800,000 to the City of Allentown for Phase II of the MLK Trail extension project; $186,700 to Lower Macungie Township for pedestrian safety improvements along Brookside and Princeton Roads; $322,134 also went to Lower Macungie Township for ADA ramp and curb improvements within three neighborhoods; North Whitehall Township received $462,027 for replacement of the Rockdale Road Bridge.

Under the Small Water and Sewer Program, Macungie Borough Authority was awarded $348,239 for Phase II of the Buttonwood Street water main replacement project.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants aimed at encouraging economic development by ensuring a safe transportation system throughout Pennsylvania. The PA Small Water and Sewer Program supports municipalities with grants for water-related infrastructure projects such as sewer upgrades or flood control efforts.

Both programs are managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The CFA has operated as an independent agency since 2004 overseeing economic stimulus initiatives in Pennsylvania.
