Cedar Crest College issued the following announcement.
As we are inundated with messages about the election and the pandemic, and concerns about “fake news” continue, media literacy education is more important than ever.
Cedar Crest College is celebrating Media Literacy Week (MLW) from October 26 through October 30. Inspired by Canada’s MLW, Communication Professor Elizabeth Ortiz founded Cedar Crest College’s MLW nine years ago. This year marks the 6th annual United States MLW hosted by the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE). MLW highlights the power of media literacy education and its essential role in education across the country.
Fifty Cedar Crest students worked for weeks to put together the first virtual MLW. This annual event features student and expert presentations, film screenings and discussion panels. Each day of the week focuses on one of the five components of media literacy: Access, Analyze, Evaluate, Create and Act.
