Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena recently issued the following announcement.

Tridentine Mass (Latin) Celebrated August 15, 2021

The Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (in Latin) will be celebrated every second Sunday of the month at 1:30 PM in the Cathedral. All are welcome, and this Mass will meet the Sunday obligation. The Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite is celebrated according to the Roman Missal promulgated in 1962 by Pope St. John XXlll and those other liturgical books associated with its use. The biggest differences noticeable by those familiar with the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite (the current Roman Missal promulgated in 1970 by Pope St. Paul VI) are as follows:

  • Mass is celebrated in Latin;
  • Mass is celebrated ad orientem (with the priest and the people facing the same way, liturgical east, towards the apse of the church);
  • Parts of the Mass are read by the priest in a low voice;
  • and Holy Communion is only received kneeling and on the tongue.
For those new to Mass in the Extraordinary Form, missal's will be available to help you follow along.
