Lehigh Career and Technical Institute issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

Eight Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on Thursday (Dec. 9) during an evening ceremony at the school.

The inductees’ family members, along with LCTI staff, Joint Operating Committee members and Lehigh County school district staff members were among dozens of people on hand for the special event.

The newest inductees are:

• Madison Dise, Whitehall High School student who studies Dental Technology at LCTI
• Austin Ebeling, an Emmaus High School student who studies Web Design/Web Programming at LCTI
• Kaitlyn Francisco, a Parkland High School student in the Commercial Baking program at LCTI
• Matthew George, an Emmaus High School student in the Commercial Photography/Electronic Imaging
• Jadyn Hengeveld, a Parkland High School student in the Painting & Design program at LCTI
• Emilio Martinez-Brito, a William Allen High School student in the Dental Technology program at LCTI
• Colby Rau, a Catasauqua High School student in the Pre-Engineering & Engineering Technology program at LCTI
• Nathan Servais, an Emmaus High School student in the Supply Chain Management & Logistics Technology program at LCTI.

Membership in the NTHS is highly competitive; students must maintain a grade average of 90 percent or better to be considered for membership. LCTI Director of Career & Technical Education Darin Van Norman said the society’s newest members represent the best of both LCTI and their sending high schools.

SkillsUSA Council Executive Director Andy Hammer was the ceremony’s featured speaker. He praised inductees for demonstrating positivity and resilience during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Despite all of the challenges that we currently face, you have found success,” Hammer said.

He also applauded inductees’ decision to pursue career and technical education at LCTI. Hammer said career and technical education students blaze a trail for themselves instead of following one pre-made for them by family or friends.

Two members of the school community also became honorary NTHS members during Thursday’s ceremony: Russell Chorney and Shane Schmoyer. Chorney serves on the Auto Technology Occupational Advisory Council and Schmoyer serves on the Painting & Design Occupational Advisory Council.

NTHS advisory and Computer Information Technology teacher Diane Rarick led the ceremony. NTHS President Brooke Delancey, a Northern Lehigh High School student in LCTI’s Criminal Justice program, handed out certificates to inductees.
