Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) reiterated his support of charter schools and school vouchers in a nod to School Choice Week in January.
In a Facebook post, Toomey said parents should be able to choose the right school for their kids as it sets the groundwork for a future life and career.
“A child’s ZIP code shouldn’t limit their opportunities,” Toomey wrote.
Pennsylvania is home to 162 charter schools.
According to the School Choice Week website, the nonprofit works to provide "free, practical and unbiased" school search resources for families. Supporters were encouraged to participate by sharing school search resources and graphics across social media platforms.
Toomey has been a regular affirmative vote for the Every Child Achieves Act, which limits implementation of Common Core curriculum. It also authorizes grants to open new charter schools and give existing charter schools flexibility of how they use federal funds.
