A few weeks ago, there were seven; now there’s just one. A high school junior whittled down his list of universities that were courting him from across the country and decided to stay close to where he grew up by committing to Penn State.
Jven Williams has decided he wants to be a Nittany Lion and made a verbal commitment last weekend to be an early Class of 2023 recruit, according to reports on 247sports.com.
“Home” was the only word on his Saturday tweet, followed by hashtag references to the Penn State coaches.
Williams is an offensive lineman from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, who pulled time on the defensive line as well, according to his high school roster.
Earlier this year, he was considering offers from Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois and Penn State.
He helped his high school team reach the Class 3A championship the past two years. Wyomissing lost a 7-0 defensive battle to Central Valley last December.
Williams is the 68th ranked recruit, and sixth among offensive tackles, according to 247sports.com.
He is the fourth offensive lineman to choose Penn State as the Nittany Lions looks to shore up their line.
The Nittany Lions have had a strong recruiting effort for the Class of 2023, holding the third spot in the rankings, 247sports.com reported.
