Pennsylvania awarded $10 million in grants for 12 projects at 10 airports, Gov. Tom Wolf announced April 25.
The funding is part of Aviation Transportation Assistance Program, a release from the governor said.
"Aviation plays a vital role in keeping our state’s economy moving,” the governor said. “These investments will help Pennsylvania’s airports operate safely, expand to meet current demands and sustain growth well into the future.”
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has 121 public-use aviation facilities including airports, heliports and seaplane bases. It ranks 16th in the country in the number of public aviation facilities, the state said. These new investments will expand aviation-related operational and economic opportunities statewide.
In Lehigh County, the Lehigh Valley International Airport will receive $1.76 million to continue the terminal connector and security checkpoint expansion and to enhance terminal commercial development connectivity, the state said.
Berks County has received $3 million for improvements to hangar complex infrastructure to "accommodate the growth of an existing airport tenant," the release said.
Pittsburgh International Airport was awarded $2.4 million for further developments of its commercial air cargo facility, including "aircraft and vehicular access and parking, environmental remediation and continued site preparation," release said.
