Gov. Tom Wolf has announced that the Governor’s Action Team (GAT) has worked to help Cabinetworks Group with an expansion project at its Mount Union facility that will lead to over 1,600 jobs created and retained.
According to a release by the governor’s office, Cabinetworks Group is investing $23 million into the project which entails converting what is currently a kitchen cabinet component facility to a complete kitchen manufacturing and assembly location. This will create 327 new jobs at the facility over three years, and retain 1,367 jobs at four locations across the state.
“My administration remains committed to investing in growing companies like Cabinetworks Group and boosting the commonwealth’s manufacturing industry,” Wolf said. “This is the kind of company that contributes to our strong manufacturing environment while also creating jobs in rural counties like Huntingdon County – a true win for Pennsylvania.”
The company received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) of $981,000 through a Pennsylvania First Grant, as well as a $630,000 workforce development grant to be used for training.
“This is the second Cabinetworks Group project we’ve invested in under Gov. Wolf,” said DCED Acting Secretary Neil Weaver, who held a press conference at the facility. “We’re pleased to support this newest expansion as the company continues to grow in central Pennsylvania.”
Cabinetworks CEO John Barkhouse said the group is “extremely proud to expand our operations in central Pennsylvania.”
Over the past seven years, Wolf has invested nearly $18 billion through GAT, which has led to the completion of 430 projects, 48,000 new jobs and 145,200 jobs retained across the state.
“This is a great example of how public and private sectors can work together to grow manufacturing in Huntingdon County,” said Debra Clark-Loner, executive director, Huntingdon County Business & Industry. “We are very pleased that Cabinetworks Group found a home with us, and are grateful for their commitment to the community.”
