Wolf: CVS 'project is going to create and retain good, family-sustaining jobs'

CVS Health is expanding its operations at is Hanover Township location to provide for new operations at the facility while creating and retaining 912 jobs.

According to a Nov. 22 news release from Gov. Tom Wolf's office, the company will be investing $4.9 million to renovate and repurpose its 13,000 square-foot distribution center in Luzerne County for a prescription, drug sorting, handling and packaging operation.

“Our new pharmacy distribution facility will expand our operations capabilities and provide meaningful work to hundreds of Pennsylvanians,” David Dederichs, executive director of government affairs at CVS Health, said in the release.

CVS Health received a $192,000 Pennsylvania First grant fund proposal through the Department of Community and Economic Development, according to the release. They also received a $100,000 workforce development grant to train new workers. This expansion project will create 64 new jobs and retain 848 existing jobs between two facilities in Somerset and Hanover townships.

“We’re thrilled that DCED and the Governor’s Action Team could play a role in this expansion project,” DCED Acting Secretary Neil Weaver said, according to the release. “We look forward to CVS Health growing their footprint in Luzerne and Somerset counties and providing the region with more good jobs.”

The project is through the Governor’s Action Team, which is made up of professionals around the Pennsylvania who report to Wolf and work with businesses planning to expand in the commonwealth. Wolf invested nearly $18 billion through GAT since 2015, the release reported. This has supported 432 projects, created 48,500 new jobs and retained 145,500 more.

“It’s a big win for Pennsylvania when a nationally-renowned company like CVS Health expands operations in the commonwealth,” Wolf said in the release. “This project is going to create and retain good, family-sustaining jobs for folks in Luzerne and Somerset counties.”

CVS Health is nationwide health solutions company that works with 300,000 colleagues including more than 40,000 physicians, nurses and nurse practitioners, the release reported.
