Rep. Zach Mako and Sen. Jarrett Coleman have announced the acquisition of a $250,000 grant from the Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program to enhance Neffs Valley Park in North Whitehall Township. The funding was secured through advocacy efforts by Mako and Coleman as part of the Commonwealth Financing Authority program. This initiative supports projects related to planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation, and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open spaces, and parks under Act 13 of 2012.
“This park is the only one in the northwest region of the township,” said Mako. “As such, the improvements will create more recreational opportunities closer to home for residents. I’m pleased to see these plans come to fruition.”
Senator Coleman highlighted the benefits of improved accessibility: “Adding accessibility features and additional parking will help more members of our community enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. I’m pleased that Rep. Mako and I were able to secure funding to help fund improvements at Neffs Park.”
The grant will facilitate several upgrades at Neffs Valley Park including streambank reconstruction; an ADA-compliant multi-use walking trail; a footbridge over Coplay Creek; and a new parking lot.
