Kelsey Beers' 17-acre equine farm in Bedminster Township, Bucks County, is set to be preserved from future residential or commercial development. This decision was announced by Senator Jarrett Coleman (R-16) following a vote by the State Agriculture Land Preservation Board.
The board's decision is part of a broader initiative to preserve 1,837 acres across 19 farms in 16 counties. "Agriculture is a top industry in our state, giving families access to fresh, local foods and benefitting our economy. Because of programs like this, agriculture will continue to be a positive force," stated Coleman.
Pennsylvania is recognized for leading the nation in the number of farms and acres permanently preserved for agricultural production. With the latest preservation efforts, the state's Farmland Preservation Program now encompasses 6,500 farms and 648,692 acres statewide.
This program aims to ensure a sustainable food supply while also supporting economic health.
