CITY OF ALLENTOWN: City Government Buildings Reopening

Cityhall2

City of Allentown issued the following announcement on June 18.

City government buildings will reopen to the public on Monday, June 22.

In response to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s “Stay at Home” order issued for Lehigh County; city government buildings have been closed since March 25. The global COVID-19 pandemic has now sickened more than 2,350 city residents and claimed 70 lives.

The closure affected City Hall, the Health Bureau, city fire stations, the Bridgeworks complex on S. 10th Street (Engineering & Recycling), the Streets Department at 1825 Grammes Road and the Parks and Recreation Department office at 3000 Parkway Boulevard.

The following measures have been taken to protect citizens and city employees from the spread of COVID-19:

Visitors will be greeted upon entering City Hall. Most business will be handled in the lobby area, eliminating the need to travel to another floor.

A drop box has been placed outside the Bridgeworks building. Contractors and citizens are encouraged to continue this use.

All visitors are required to wear face masks.

Building Maintenance staff has increased the disinfection and sanitizing of all common areas that are used by the public and employees including the front counters, elevators, entrance doors and stairwells.

Plexiglass shields have been installed at the main lobby desk and at front counters for protection of the public and employees. Plexiglass shields have also been installed at cubicles and desks, where required, for employee protection.

Stanchion belt systems have been installed at counter areas where the public/customers will be visiting to maintain social distancing. The departments on each floor have placed 6’ social distancing stickers on the floors where the public/customers will be accessing the counters.
