Field Hockey Powers Past Bryn Athyn

Cedar Crest College Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 13.

The Cedar Crest College field hockey team defeated Bryn Athyn College, 12-0, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex.

Juniors Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School) along with freshman Karleigh Hobel (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) each netted hat tricks for the Falcons. Freshmen Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and sophomore Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) tallied one goal each to close out the scoring.

Cedar Crest started strong with five goals in the opening quarter. Hobel put the Falcons on the board with a marker off an assist from Jackson in the seventh minute. Cieri followed with an unassisted goal in the ninth minute. Hobel capped off the hat trick in the opening frame while Jackson had one to round out the scoring column.

The Falcons kept the offense going in the second quarter, netting two goals. Junior Alexandra Infante (Stowe, Vt./Stowe High) set up Cieri for her second of the night in the 29th minute while Marone found the back of the net less than a minute later as Cedar Crest entered the half with a 7-0 lead.

The Falcons maintained the momentum in the second half, recording three more tallies in the third frame. Cieri blasted a shot from the top of the circle and it got past Lions' goalkeeper Kailey Bower to finish off the hat trick. Marone followed with her second of the night when she connected on a one-timer off a pass from Cieri. Marone would find the back of the net exactly five minutes later to extend the advantage to 10-0.

Cedar Crest netted two more goals in the final quarter for the 12-0 final. Large found the back of the net in the 51st minute while Large assisted Carver for the last goal of the contest.

The Falcons outshot Bryn Athyn 27-1 and held an 11-0 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman goalkeeper Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) recorded one save in the victory. Brower had 10 saves in the setback.

Cedar Crest (4-7 overall, 2-2 CSAC) will stay at home to host Sweet Briar College on Friday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m. Bryn Athyn (0-7 overall, 0-3 CSAC) welcomes in Notre Dame of Maryland University for its next contest on Saturday, October 16 at 5:30 p.m.
