LCCC Accepting Applications for Physical Therapist Assistant Program

Lehigh Carbon Community College issued the following announcement on Nov. 11.

For students interested in a hands-on health career that helps people heal and improve their quality of life, Lehigh Carbon Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant associate degree provides a path to a fulfilling career. Applications for the selective program are currently being accepted until the deadline of Feb. 1, 2022.

 

Graduates with a PTA associate degree work under the supervision and direction of a licensed physical therapist in performing such treatments as therapeutic exercise, massage, instructions in daily living and the use and care of braces, prostheses and ambulation devices. Students in the program also work in a clinical environment as part of the requirements for the degree. Career opportunities are available in acute care hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, sports medicine facilities and children’s care centers.

 

According to Job Outlook, nationwide the field is growing at 32%, much faster than average, and lists annual median pay at nearly $50,000. Numerous positions are available locally.

 

The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

 

Prospective students must complete an application for admission to the college, followed by the application specific to the PTA program. Transcripts of all academic records are also required. Prospective students must complete a placement test, unless they qualify for a waiver, and successfully complete an interview with the admissions committee. A minimum grade point average of 2.2 is required to be in the program. Guidance for the application process is available on the college’s webpage.
