Tennis Advances to CSAC Championship Match with 5-2 Victory Over Bryn Athyn on Senior Day

Cedar Crest College Athletics issued the following announcement on Apr. 29.

The No. 2 seeded Cedar Crest College tennis team advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament Championship match with a 5-2 victory over No. 3 seed Bryn Athyn College in the tournament semifinal round on Friday afternoon. It also marked Senior Day for Falcons' senior Maya Narasimhan (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood), who was honored in a special post-match ceremony.

The Falcons got out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The Falcons' second doubles team of junior Sasha Singh (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) and sophomore Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) doubled up the Lions' pair of freshman Ava Fino (Harding, Pa.) and junior Amber Dawes, 8-4. Cedar Crest then went up 2-0 with a win at first doubles. Narasimhan and sophomore Katherine Franzone () defeated freshman Annae Connelly (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) and freshman Thea Keal, 8-3. (Dowington, Pa.) and freshman Nicol Kaczorek took down sophomore Sam Henson (Waterbury, Conn./W.F. Keynor Technical) and freshman Brittany Schultz (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty ), 8-7 (10-6) for the Lions' doubles point.

Cedar Crest captured three of the four completed singles points to secure the victory, all in straight sets. Henson defeated Fino at the No. 5 spot, 6-1 and 6-3. The Lions captured a point at No. 3 with a Connelly win over Singh (6-0, 6-2). Narasimhan defeated Kaczorek, 6-2 and 6-0 at the top singles spot. The Falcons secured the win when Franzone beat Keal at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3).

Cedar Crest (8-5 overall) will travel to top-seeded Cairn University for the CSAC Championship match, which will take place Saturday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m.
