The Cedar Crest College soccer team got back in the win column on Wednesday night, defeating Neumann University in a 3-1 final in non-conference action at the FalconPlex.
"I'm super proud of our group tonight," said Head Soccer Coach Jesse Zafiratos. "This was a big-time win for us leading into conference play."
The Falcons netted a pair of goals in the opening half. Junior Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) put Cedar Crest on the scoreboard in the sixth minute to give the home team the early 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons added another in the 34th minute when first-year Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) drew a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty shot. Davis stepped up and delivered a shot low and to the left of the Knights' first-year goalkeeper Lex Navarro (Valley Stream, N.Y.) to make it a 2-0 contest.
Cedar Crest found the net once more when Kelly found senior Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) off a corner kick. Kelly sent the ball in play, which found the head of Wolf and the senior deposited the ball in the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.
Neumann got themselves on the board with a goal from senior Chloe Britton (Woolrich, N.J.) in the 80th minute to make it the 3-1 final.
The Falcons held an 18-11 edge in shots and had 10 corner kicks to the Knights' four.
Senior Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) made six saves in goal for Cedar Crest while Navarro converted seven stops in the setback.
Cedar Crest (3-3-1 overall) starts Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play in its next match as they host Keystone College on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. on Homecoming. Neumann (1-5-2 overall) will return to action on Saturday in a road match at Rosemont College. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
