Soccer Pushes Past Clarks Summit With Strong Second Half

The Cedar Crest College soccer team netted five goals in the second half to propel themselves to a 6-1 victory at Clarks Summit University on Wednesday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match.

Senior Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) tallied four goals while sophomore Linsey Nester (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg) and graduate student Ashley Whittaker (Huntersville, N.C. /Hopewell ) each scored once. Whittaker also added a pair of assists. First-year Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) played the opening 76:09 and made seven saves in goal while classmate Maddie Kantawala (Havertown, Pa. /Haverford ) finished the final 13:51 to help secure the triumph.

Wolf got the scoring started in the 30th minute with her 12th of the season. The 1-0 score held for the remainder of the first half.

The second half was all Cedar Crest as Whittaker and Nestor netted the first two of the frame to make the score, 3-0. Sophomore Ksenya Larsen-Sorterup (Damariscotta, Maine) got the Lady Defenders on the scoreboard with a marker in the 60th minute off an assist from junior Davi Ort (Granville, Pa.). Wolf then scored three times for the Falcons to break the game open, 6-1, the eventual final.

Cedar Crest dominated the shot category, 46-10, and had six corner kicks in the contest.

Cedar Crest (5-3-1 overall, 2-0-0 CSAC) will head to Wilson College on Saturday, October 1 for a 1:00 p.m. conference tilt. Clarks Summit (2-3-3 overall, 0-2-0 CSAC) will welcome in Bryn Athyn College for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday.
