Soccer Blanks Cairn Behind Quick Start

The Cedar Crest College soccer team scored a pair of goals in the first seven minutes en route to a 2-0 shutout of Cairn University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex.

"Great conference result for us tonight against a really gritty Cairn team," said Head Soccer Coach Jesse Zafiratos. "We scored two early goals and were able to dictate the rest of the game."

Senior Morgan Love (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) scored her first goal of the season in the fourth minute off an assist from classmate Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown). Wolf crossed the ball in front of the goal and Love snuck the shot by Highlanders' sophomore goalkeeper Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, N.J.) to give the Falcons the 1-0 advantage.

Cedar Crest added to its margin in the seventh minute as graduate student Ashley Whittaker (Huntersville, N.C. /Hopewell ) sent a pass in to sophomore Linsey Nester (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg) and she found the back of the net for her fourth marker of the season to make it the 2-0 final.

The Falcons controlled the shot category, 25-6, and had seven corner kicks to Cairn's one.

Senior Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) collected one save in the clean sheet for Cedar Crest while Lazor made 17 saves in the loss for the Highlanders.

Cedar Crest (7-3-2 overall, 4-0-1 CSAC) continues its homestand on Saturday, October 15 against Rosemont College at 1:00 p.m. Cairn (8-5-1 overall, 3-2-0 CSAC) returns home to host the University of Valley Forge in a conference match on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
