HARRISBURG – In his capacity as Republican chairman of the House Labor and Industry Committee, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) is contributing to an effort to reduce state government regulations and red tape that began two years ago.

The House Republican Caucus made a formal request to the Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) in September 2022 to review numerous state government regulations under Section 8.1 of the Regulatory Review Act. The IRRC reviewed 40 prior rulemakings, 103 chapters of regulations, and two subchapters within 10 state agencies. As a result, the IRRC recently adopted recommendations from six House committees to repeal outdated and unnecessary regulations.

“During my time in office, I have always been focused on limiting government overreach and reducing red tape,” said Mackenzie. “I am pleased our work is paying off with the repeal of these outdated regulations by the IRRC. However, this is just the start of our efforts to streamline and modernize state government to better serve Pennsylvania residents.”

In some cases, caucus research uncovered regulations that existed before IRRC was created in 1982 and had never been reviewed.
