Senator Jarrett Coleman has announced that the Parkland School District will receive a $900,000 Public School Facility Improvement Grant for an HVAC project at Cetronia Elementary School in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. The grant aims to support the replacement of the current HVAC system with a more efficient design that includes dehumidification capabilities.
The new system is expected to improve air quality, enhance system efficiencies, and upgrade building security through automation. The funds from the PSFIG will cover equipment purchase, installation, and engineering costs. The total cost of the project is estimated at $4,937,590, with the Parkland School District covering the remaining expenses from its Capital Improvement Fund.
“I’m pleased we are able to provide this important funding to enhance building security and air quality at Cetronia Elementary,” stated Senator Coleman. “As a graduate of Cetronia myself, this upgrade is long overdue. Ensuring our kids’ schools are healthy and safe places to learn is a top priority.”
Dr. Mark Madson, Superintendent of Parkland Schools, expressed satisfaction with receiving grant assistance for the costly capital improvement project. “Parkland was pleased to apply for and receive some grant funding that will help us replace the HVAC system at Cetronia," he said. "The grant funds help to offset the taxpayer burden of paying for the needed repair."
