The Cedar Crest College volleyball team captured two Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) major awards and had six student-athletes selected to All-Conference teams as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Junior Rebekka Sanchez-Castro (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was selected as the CSAC Defensive Player of the Year, marking the second straight Cedar Crest student-athlete to receive the award after Tiffany Hoppes captured the honors last season. Sanchez-Castro has played in all 21 matches so far this season for the Falcons and has registered 362 digs and 29 service aces. She ranks first in the conference in digs per set at 4.99. Sanchez-Castro also earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Joining Sanchez-Castro on the major award stage was first-year Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) capturing the CSAC Rookie of the Year award. She appeared in 18 matches for the Falcons and registered 127 kills, five assists, 13 digs, and 48 blocks. She ranked third in the conference in hitting percentage, ninth in kills, and first in blocks. Everett was also named as a Second Team All-Conference selection.
Along with Sanchez-Castro on the First Team was classmate Ava Grapsy (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic). The junior has seen time in all 21 matches, starting in all of them. She has recorded 55 kills, 541 assists, 30 service aces, 220 digs, and 18 blocks. Grapsy currently sits second in the conference in assists per set at 7.49.
Junior Maddison Minyo (Covington, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) accompanies Everett on the Second Team. The junior has played in 14 matches, making 13 starts. She has collected 103 kills, eight assists, 14 service aces, 105 digs, and seven blocks. Minyo ranked fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.261) and sixth in kills.
Rounding out the All-Conference selections were sophomore Alexis Cummins (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) and senior Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) being recognized as Honorable Mention.
Cummins picked up an Honorable Mention nod after she played in all 21 matches this season. She has tallied 152 kills, 14 assists, 28 service aces, 195 digs, and 18 blocks.
Schouppe joined Cummins as an Honorable Mention and has appeared in all 21 matches this season. She has recorded 127 kills, 11 assists, 31 service aces, 54 digs, and 51 blocks.
Cedar Crest (14-8 overall) won the CSAC Championship for the second year in a row and will open play in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Thursday, November 10 against the University of Mary Washington on Thursday, November 10 at 8:00 p.m. in Fredricksburg, Va.
