State Senator Jarrett Coleman (R-16) has criticized Governor Josh Shapiro's budget proposal, calling it "irresponsible" and "risky." In a statement issued following the governor's budget address to the General Assembly, Coleman expressed concerns about the proposed increase in spending and the use of unrealistic revenue projections.

Coleman stated, "Pennsylvanians need a state budget that protects taxpayers, improves our economic competitiveness, and expands school choice for parents and students." He emphasized the importance of adopting a realistic, balanced, and responsible state spending plan. According to Coleman, the budget should focus on funding the core functions of government, protecting taxpayers against excessive spending, and promoting private-sector economic growth and job opportunities for Pennsylvania residents.

The senator cautioned against the idea that throwing more government money at problems will automatically solve them. He argued that it often leads to more expensive problems. Coleman pledged to work with his colleagues in the General Assembly to ensure the adoption of a responsible budget that addresses the needs of the state without burdening taxpayers.
