Cedar Crest College Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.

A strong second half fueled Wilson College to a 77-66 victory over Cedar Crest College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's basketball showdown on Wednesday night at the Gannett Field House.

Juniors Yaya Cannon (Lancaster, Pa.) and Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va.) paced as the Phoenix (5-4 overall, 4-0 CSAC) won their second straight game. Cannon finished with a team-high 24 points and added four rebounds, two assists, and six steals while Murphy recorded a near double-double of 17 points, nine boards, two assists, and four steals. Junior Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va.) pitched in a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

Junior Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) led all scorers with 33 points to pace the Falcons (1-7 overall, 0-5 CSAC). Classmate Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) joined Wilson in double figures with a season-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Wilson led for the majority of the first half and took its biggest lead at 29-20 following a free throw by fifth-year Michaela Singer (Annville, Va.) with 3:37 to play. Cedar Crest would cut the deficit to three in the closing minutes of the opening half on a jumper by Wilson, however, the Phoenix entered the intermission with a 36-30 advantage.

The Falcons started the third quarter strong, outscoring Wilson 11-5 over the first 5:18 of the frame to pull even with the Phoenix, 41-41. The home squad was able to regain control quickly and build a nine-point lead before ending the frame with an eight-point edge, 56-48.

Wilson pumped the lead to as many as 16 points in the final quarter and shot 36 percent for the stanza.

Cedar Crest will return to action on Thursday, December 30 at Lebanon Valley College with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
