Representative Ryan Mackenzie from the 187th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has voiced strong opposition to House Bill 769, which would permit immigrants in the country illegally to obtain driver's licenses. Mackenzie expressed his concerns regarding the legislation, citing various reasons for his disapproval.

"A driver’s license is one of the privileges of being an American citizen, but this bill would also grant that same privilege to those who enter the country illegally, which is simply wrong. I am strongly opposed to the legislation for many reasons," Mackenzie stated. He highlighted that granting driver's licenses to individuals without citizenship could incentivize illegal immigration and legitimize their unlawful presence in Pennsylvania.

Mackenzie also raised public safety apprehensions, emphasizing the national security implications of allowing individuals in the country illegally to possess licenses. He pointed out the potential misuse of these licenses, including boarding planes, which could create challenges for tracking illegal immigrants.

Furthermore, Mackenzie expressed concerns about the impact on deportations, stating, "Currently, when an individual here illegally is pulled over and caught driving without a license, they should be turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE). Under this legislation, that safeguard would be taken away, resulting in fewer deportations."

The representative also highlighted the electoral implications of the bill, noting that automatic voter registration for driver's license holders in Pennsylvania could lead to immigrants in the country illegally participating in elections if the legislation is enacted.

In conclusion, Mackenzie urged the rejection of proposals like House Bill 769 and called for more proactive measures in Pennsylvania to address the challenges stemming from the federal government's immigration policies.
