In Harrisburg, a press conference took place on Tuesday where Representative Ryan Mackenzie and other House members discussed the "Standing Up for Pennsylvania Workers" bill package. This legislative package is currently under consideration in the House of Representatives and aims to improve the lives of workers in Pennsylvania. Alongside Mackenzie were Reps. Ann Flood, Valerie Gaydos, and Eric Nelson, who are prime sponsors of three bills within the package.

Mackenzie emphasized his commitment to Pennsylvania's workforce, stating, "As Republican chair of the House Labor and Industry Committee, I am a staunch advocate for Pennsylvania’s hard-working men and women." He further described the six-bill package as a comprehensive effort to enhance worker safety and promote fairness in the workplace.

The proposed legislation includes creating a Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit to provide financial security for families during times they are needed at home. Additionally, it authorizes Association Health Care Plans to help small businesses offer health care benefits by pooling resources for reduced costs. Gaydos remarked on this initiative: "Cutting the cost of health care for our employees is imperative."

Another key proposal seeks to regulate pre-employment non-disclosure agreements to empower victims of sexual harassment to speak out without fear. Flood highlighted its importance: "House Bill 1906 is crucial for empowering victims."

Further measures include requiring E-Verify for all public contracts to protect jobs for American workers and addressing violence in health care facilities by ensuring reports are acted upon. Lastly, analyzing public sector worker safety would allow data collection on injuries to improve conditions.

Nelson stressed the significance of worker safety improvements: "Pennsylvania can do better when it comes to worker safety." Mackenzie urged bipartisan support before the session ends next month: “Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of countless Pennsylvanians.”
